Banner Accounts
There are three primary types of Banner accounts at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG). Any student, faculty, or staff member at the university is given a university ID. This together with what is referred to as a Personal Identification Number (PIN) allows members of the community to access services such as the UNCG Information System (commonly referred to as UNCGENIE). The other two types of accounts are typically used for faculty and staff members who need additional access to the Banner information system. Below is information detailing the specifics of the two remaining account types.
- Additional/Changed Access
- Banner Runtime Account
- Banner File Load Account
- Banner Finance Access
- Banner Human Resources Access
- Banner Student Data Access
- Banner Alumni Data Access

Banner Runtime Account
All new UNCG employees will automatically receive a Banner Runtime account for use in Banner production (BANPRD) and the related Operational Data Store (ODSP). Users will only need to activate their default accounts, as described below in Step 1, in order to gain access to Banner. The next step would be to request specific data access for the appropriate type of data as described in the sections below (Banner Finance Access, Banner Human Resources Access, Banner Student Access).
For non-employees, or for access to non-production Banner and/or ODS environments:
- Activate Your Default Accounts in order to gain access to Banner. Your default accounts allow you to log in to the UNCG Novell environment and to access the desktop support software necessary to run the Banner application.
- Fill out the Banner Runtime Account Request (PDF: requires a reader such as Adobe Reader) and follow the instructions.
- Access to the Banner applications and data requires a Banner user ID which is authorized for the specific data and functions for your need.
Please submit your request to:

Business Affairs Suite/attn Tracy Clemmons
254 Mossman Building
If you need to request access to more than one module, please submit separate requests as the approval/authorization process for individual modules is distributed among different campus offices.
Banner File Load Account
For a subset of Banner users, an operating system level account on one or more of the Banner database servers may also be required.
If you do require Banner UNIX operating system level access, you will need to complete the Banner File Load Account Request (PDF: requires a reader such as Adobe Reader) and secure the appropriate signatures of authorization before submitting your request to Information Technology.
The following functions require a Banner file load account on the database server.
Access to file upload/down areas:
- /alumni
- /arsys
- /finaid
- /finance
- /general
- /payroll
- /posnctl
- /student
Access to software development areas:
This may be for either software developers within IT or in client offices. As access for software development is a highly customized function, please enter a description for the type of software development you intend to perform, and someone from IT will contact you for details if necessary.
Note: If your job does not involve file upload, file download, or program development, you do NOT need a Banner UNIX (Banner File Load) operating system level account. Most Banner users will not need this level of access.
There are two parts of the form to be completed. The first part of the form is standard personal information. The second part specifies the particular areas for which you are requesting access. For each directory area (/alumni, /arsys , /finaid , /finance, /general, /payroll, and /student) you must also select either "Production," "Test," or "Other." This will determine the database servers for which you will be authorized.
Authorizing signatures are required for each file upload/download area. The authorizing party must also initial beside "Production," "Test," and "Other" to indicate that access to this area is approved. The "Other" category is reserved for access to special purpose or temporary databases. Use the "Other" option only if instructed to do so by an IT representative.
