Accounts and Services Descriptions

After setting up your computing accounts, you will have access to a range of UNCG technology services.

Default Services: These are services that are ready for you to use after you set up your computing accounts.

Opt-in Services: These services require you to take one or more actions in order to use them.



Other Accounts/Services: Some services, such as UNCGenie and Banner, require special accounts or special access. See Other Accounts/Services for more details.


Default Services


G Suite for Education (Google Apps)

Suite of apps, including Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Drive (cloud storage) and Hangouts.


Canvas

UNCG’s learning management system for use by students and faculty.


WebEx for students

Collaboration suite of applications for online learning, online meetings, and webinars (faculty/staff, see WebEx for faculty/staff).


Wireless Service

The primary wireless network on campus is “eduroam.” This is a secure wireless service available to students, faculty and staff, both on campus, as well as at participating institutions across the US and internationally.


Office 365

Cloud-based Microsoft productivity suite that provides access to Office applications (like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote), OneDrive (cloud storage), and other productivity services.


MyCloud

UNCG service that provides online access to applications and desktops.


UNIX

UNIX can be used in the UNCG UNIX environment for Web publishing, some specialized math software, and data analysis. Popular UNIX software packages include such as SAS, SPSS, and Sage are also provided.

Campus Network

The UNCG campus network provides services to campus desktop and laptop computer users.

  • Access: Log on to workstations connected to campus network, including those in ITS-managed computer labs (e.g. SuperLab)

WebEx for faculty/staff

Collaboration suite of applications for online learning, online meetings, and webinars (students, see WebEx for students).


Box

Cloud storage space. UNCG Box accounts have unlimited storage quota.


Instructional Linux Environment (ILE)

Linux-based, general-purpose instructional environment. It provides operating system command-level access using standard UNIX/Linux utilities for teaching and research. Popular UNIX software packages such as SAS, SPSS, and Sage are also provided.

  • Access:
    • Use of ILE requires a personal home directory (S: drive). To request an S: drive, please visit https://its.uncg.edu/my-services.
    • Connect via SSH client to host name “ile.uncg.edu”
  • Login: UNCG username and password

There are some services that require special accounts or access, including:

UNCGenie

Student Information Center for registration, financial aid, and other administrative services.


Administrative Banner (INB)

Note: The Banner Information System contains menus and forms (screens) that allow authorized users to inquire on and maintain information about anyone affiliated with UNCG as a prospect, applicant, student, faculty member, staff member, or alumnus. Security permits different users to see and update specific information as is appropriate for their job at UNCG.
