Email Account Information
When members of The University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) Community activate their default accounts, they are given an e-Spartan email account for their use while at the university. The e-Spartan account is a Lotus email account, and faculty/staff members can use this in their offices with the Lotus Desktop Client. If you are looking for support topics related to e-Spartan and email services at UNCG, please be sure to visit the Email Support pages.
Non-Personal Accounts
A non-personal e-Spartan account allows an entity to publish a valid @uncg.edu address to its clients. Email sent to this address will be delivered to the account, which may be accessed by multiple people. Below are some advantages:
- Can prevent an individual’s account from being overwhelmed by entity-related email
- Can more clearly identify your email as official UNCG business in your client’s inbox
- Allows multiple employees to check and respond to incoming email, thereby reducing the risk of “missing” an email
- Can be used from both on and off campus
While referred to as “non-personal,” the account must still be owned by an active UNCG staff or faculty member. This individual accepts responsibility for the use of the account just as they do for their personal account. The account owner also has the ability to change the account’s password by making a Self-Service Password Reset Request (reset.uncg.edu).
If the account owner leaves the department and/or UNCG, the entity must notify UNCG Information Technology Services (ITS) as soon as possible to avoid disruption of service. At that time ITS will work with the entity to transfer ownership of the account to a new owner. Please fill out this form completely. All fields are required. Submit this form via the Web, print out the completed form, and send via interoffice.
To request a non-personal e-Spartan account, fill out the Non-Personal Account Request (PDF: requires a reader such as Adobe Reader) and follow the directions provided.
When you have been notified that your non-personal e-Spartan account is configured, the first thing you should do is change the password on the new account. To do this:
- Make a Self Service Password Reset Request (reset.uncg.edu) .
- The registered account owner must enter his/her personal information on this page but specify the newly created account name in the Computer User name field.
- Click on Request Password Reset .
- Answer the Computer Challenge Question correctly and click on Request Password Reset .
- Click on the box next to the password you wish to change (e-Spartan).
- Enter a new password in the Password and Verify Password boxes.
- Click on Request Password Reset.
Once you have successfully reset the password, you and those you designate will be able to log in to the new account using the e-Spartan Web client.
