Using the GUAPSWD form
The GUAPSWD form is used to change the account password in a Banner database. When the database administrator initially creates the Banner database accounts, the account passwords are set to a randomly generated password. In order to maintain the confidentiality and integrity of the data in the database, it is very important that you change your account password in the validation (pre-production) and production databases. The directions below explain how to change the database password. These instructions will only change the password in the database that you are logged into and must be repeated for each database.
To
change a database password, log into the database as you normally do. When the Menu Form appears, enter GUAPSWD in the Direct Access: field and press ENTER.

The Oracle Password Change Form below will
appear.

Enter your old password in the Oracle Password: field. Enter your new password in the New Oracle Password: field and then enter it again in the Verify Password: field. As you enter the passwords, asterisks will display to protect the privacy of the passwords. When you have completed entering the new passwords, click the Save button to change the password.
Banner Password Requirements:
- The password must be a minimum of eight characters.
- The password must contain at least one numeric digit.
- The first character of the password must be an alphabetic character.
- The password cannot be the same as the Oracle User ID.
- The password cannot be common words.
If the two entries of the new password do not match,
the message ?*ERROR* Password not verified; please re-enter your password?
will appear in the autohint area. If any of the requirements above are violated,
the following message will appear:
If both entries match and the password passes
validation, a window will appear indicating that the password has been changed.

Click on the OK button to continue. You will automatically be reconnected with the new password. To change your password in other Banner databases, you must exit this session, log into another database, and repeat the above directions.
