About the Laptops
There are several laptops offered through the UNCG Student Laptop Initiative: three from Lenovo/IBM and three from Apple. Each vendor is providing a less expensive model that meets the standard requirements of the Student Laptop Initiative and high-end models that offer better performance. Be sure to examine the hardware, software, and warranty-related information before making any final decision.
Students are free to select any of the recommended laptops for purchase. However, some degree programs may require that students have a particular vendor's laptop or even a specific model of recommended laptop. Be sure to check with the department of your degree program to see if there any expressed Laptop Platform Preferences.
All incoming traditional freshmen (full-time, non-transfer, etc.) will be required to have a laptop that at least meets the program's minimum requirements. Please review the program's Minimum Requirements for Non-Program Laptops if you are considering purchasing a non-program laptop.

Your Student Laptop Initiative laptop comes pre-loaded with software for academic use. The software has been selected to ensure successful student use in all academic disciplines.
Microsoft licensing has allowed UNCG to distribute Office 2007, Windows XP, and Vista media to Student Laptop Participants at a cost of $5.00 per copy. Please fill out the appropriate form to request your copy:
- Microsoft Campus Agreement for Office (PDF: requires a reader such as Adobe Reader)
- Microsoft Campus Agreement for Vista (PDF: requires a reader such as Adobe Reader)
- Microsoft Campus Agreement for XP (PDF: requires a reader such as Adobe Reader)
