Laptop Platform Preferences
In various programs of study at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG), students will be working with different technologies. These are often industry standards for the careers for which the UNCG degree programs are designed to prepare students. One operating system or another, often referred to as "the platform," may be more appropriate for the type of work or software the student may encounter while pursuing a specific program degree. Lenovo/IBM program laptops utilize the Microsoft Windows operating system. The Apple laptops that are a part of the program utilize the Mac OS X operating system.
UNCG advises incoming students to consult with a departmental representative in their planned major before deciding on which recommended model to purchase. For more details regarding the models, visit About the Laptops. If your major is undecided, please be aware that most departments on campus use the Windows platform. Below are the platform preferences that have been expressed by departments based upon current software and hardware usage in their degree programs.
