Register a Computer on the Network
When you set up a new computer, you must register it in order to gain access to the UNCG network. Likewise, if you move your current computer to a new location, you must re-register it in order to maintain access to the UNCG network. Information Technology Services (ITS) recommends that you call 6-TECH Technical Support at 336-256-TECH (8324) to make an appointment for a technician to install your new computer or re-register an existing computer that you have moved. If your computer is new, the technician will configure it with the standard UNCG computer image. A computer that has the standard UNCG computer image:
- will work with all UNCG enterprise applications supported on the computer's operating system
- will receive campus-wide distributed software updates that have been tested on imaged computers
- will be more easily serviced by ITS technicians because they are familiar with the set-up
NOTE: University policies and software license agreements restrict the data and software that can be accessed on private (non-University owned) machines. Privately owned machines may not be registered on the UNCG network.
