On Wednesday, June 27th, Information Technology Services (ITS) experienced a hardware problem on an email server that it was the process of replacing. This problem caused the server to generate a "network storm", i.e., it sent out massive volumes of network broadcast traffic throughout the server farm. This resulted in degraded performance in most enterprise services. The hardware has since been replaced and the issue resolved.
