What: Brief Email Downtime
When: Thursday, 9/6 (Between 5 and 7 AM)
Why: Installation of a patch to repair mail index feature
- A new form of spam caused the email servers to crash last evening (9/4)
- No data was lost
- Information Technology Services (ITS) received a patch for the issue, installed it last night (on one of the servers as a test), and the server is now working properly
- This patch needs to be applied to the remaining mail servers
- This will happen during "system time" (5-7 AM) tomorrow (9/6)
- Email servers will be down for approximately five (5) minutes during the patch
- Until the patch is applied, the mail index will not update, meaning any search of your mail index (e.g., sent mail, etc) will not show any mail sent or received
- Once the patch is applied, the index will return to normal
