On Saturday August 16, 2008, UNCG ITS became aware of a fake email targeting email addresses at UNCG. Due to the unfortunate coincidence that this email coincides with UNCG's preparation to outsource student email on Monday August 18th, ITS wanted to communicate with campus users immediately about this threat.

The message claims to be from the "www.uncg.edu Webmail Team" and asks you to enter your account information, including password, to keep your email account from being deleted. This email is a fake and should not be replied to but should be deleted immediately.

Dear uncg.edu Email Account Owner,

This message is from www. uncg.edu messaging center to all EDU email account owners On Wednesday 15th and Thursday 16th August, 2008, from 11:45 PM until 7:20 AM, all Mail hub systems in the Portal will under go regularly scheduled maintenance in EDU Access to your e-mail via the Web mail client may be unavailable for some time during this maintenance window to all www. uncg.edu email account owners. We are currently upgrading our data base and e-mail account center.
We are deleting all www. uncg.edu email account to create more space for new accounts.

To prevent your account from closing you will have to update it below so that we will know that it's a present used account.

To complete your EDU Web mail account, you must reply to this email immediately and enter your ACCOUNT USERNAME here (_________) and the CORRECT PASSWORD here (________) immediately for upgrading, Once we have updated your account, current records will be sent to your Online Account and your service will not be interrupted and will continue working as normal.
