FastFacts
- Who: Students, Faculty, and Staff
- What: Phased, Campus Wireless Refresh
- When: Beginning this Friday, 3/28 (see Wireless Refresh Schedule)
As part of the process of refreshing the wireless network equipment, the University is upgrading its wireless network by replacing Cisco equipment with Aruba equipment. After an evaluation process, ITS selected Aruba as the preferred vendor to meet UNCG's wireless network requirements. Upgrading the campus wireless network allows ITS to design a long-term, sustainable wireless network that operates as efficiently and cost effectively as possible.
Academic buildings and a few other buildings on campus have been identified as Phase I or Phase II buildings. These buildings will have the new wireless networking equipment installed by the end of June 2008. Remaining buildings will be scheduled as funding becomes available. Ultimately, the wireless network will be expanded to provide ubiquitous, full-campus coverage.
As buildings are scheduled for the upgrade, ITS will send out email reminders to building occupants. Please note that faculty will receive building reminders when their office location, not necessarily classrooms used, is scheduled for the wireless refresh.
