UNCG Personal Webspace To Be Offered in Google Sites
14 August 2009
UNCG has offered personal webspace to students, faculty & staff in the UNIX web environment (http://www.uncg.edu/~username). This space was intended for personal use and only delivered static content. Due to the rapid adoption of Google Sites by students, faculty and staff since introducing iSpartan in August 2008, the collaborative nature of the space, and the ability for users to access services beyond the delivery of static web pages, ITS (Information Technology Services) is transitioning the personal webspace offering at UNCG into Google Sites. This means:
- ITS documentation has been updated to include information on how to create your personal webspace in iSpartan (Google Sites). This is now the recommended location for student, faculty and staff personal web space.
- Students, Faculty & Staff will still continue to get a default UNIX account.
- ITS documentation will still exist on how to setup your UNIX account webspace (~/username) in the event you need to use this space for a class, etc.
- ITS will not be migrating information from existing UNIX personal webspace into Google Sites. Users can choose to recreate their information in Google Sites if they wish.
