Virtual Computing at UNCG
18 August 2009
The Virtual Computing Lab (VCL) is a remote access service that allows individuals to reserve a computer with a desired set of applications, and remotely access it over the Internet. All students and faculty have VCL access to some of the most popular software applications used for instruction at UNCG (e.g., Microsoft Office, SAS, Dreamweaver and Photoshop). Additional applications are available to students and faculty based on based on enrollment in or teaching responsibilities for specific courses. To see applications available for your use, use the information below to login to UNCG's VCL site.
The VCL login is the same user name and password used to login to the UNCG network. By logging into the VCL, students and faculty can access available lab software applications for class assignments via the UNCG wired or wireless network, or from home. Individuals can make a reservation (to use at a later time) or choose the "Now" option to log on without a reservation, but there may be a wait as the requested software is loaded. VCL is normally available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, except for occasional maintenance times.
To view available software programs or set up a reservation, visit the UNCG VCL login page. Faculty can request a software image for a course by completing the Software Installation Request form, and selecting "Yes" for the "Virtual Computing Lab (VCL) access requested" option.
NOTE: Some of the software available through VCL is funded by student fees for instructional purposes, and is not software that staff in administrative departments are permitted to use (unless those support staff work in an academic department, and need to support a faculty member). In an effort to have enough VCL seats available for student use, this service is primarily for student and faculty use.
