Laptop Ownership Requirement Discontinued

13 January 2009

On Tuesday, January 13, 2009, Provost David H. Perrin announced that Academic Affairs would be removing the University-wide requirement for all undergraduate students to own a laptop.

Although this requirement has been discontinued as a University-wide requirement, some academic departments will continue to require laptop ownership, and they will communicate this requirement to their students.

As the University committed to do, ITS will continue to provide technical support for laptops purchased through the Student Laptop Initiative (SLI) for four years from purchase date. ITS will continue to provide a discounted purchase opportunity for students who seek appropriately-equipped, high-quality laptops at a reasonable cost. For more information, go to the SLI web page. ITS also will continue to support use of the UNCG wireless network for students whose laptops meet recommended minimum specifications.
