Passwords Becoming Case-Sensitive
29 January 2009
FastFacts
- Who: Students, Faculty and Staff
- What: Upgrade of directory servers will cause passwords to become case-sensitive
- When: Friday, February 6th
- Why: Upgrade of components within the UNCG user directory environment
- Client Impact: Passwords will be case-sensitive after the update
Note: This will impact all web applications at UNCG, such as Blackboard, iSpartan and e-Spartan
When users submit their username and password to login to a web application at UNCG, they are passed off to nwauth.uncg.edu (in most cases) where they are verified. Currently, this password check is not case-sensitive. Due to an upgrade to UNCG's eDirectory servers, the rule will change on Friday, February 6th. After this date, the password check will be case-sensitive.
If you experience an issue logging into a UNCG web application after the change is made, please try your password again using uppercase letters if you used them when you reset your password. If you still experience issues logging in, you may need to reset your password. This can be done at reset.uncg.edu.
If you have questions or need more information, please contact 6-TECH at (336) 256-TECH (8324) or 6-TECH@uncg.edu.
