Important Update to spamcontrol.uncg.edu for Faculty/Staff
10 July 2009
On Monday July 13th, UNCG will transition its anti-virus/anti-spam solution for Faculty/Staff email from Sophos PureMessage to Postini. Postini's features are similar to PureMessage in that:
Postini filters and quarantines spam before it reaches your inbox. Messages infected with known viruses are automatically "bounced back" to the sender. Each day you will receive a Quarantine Summary email showing messages that have been quarantined. The blocked messages are saved for 14 days. You have the ability to login to your Postini Message Center to view messages that have been quarantined, and deliver, any of them to your email inbox. You will continue to login to your Quarantine (Message Center) by going to *http://spamcontrol.uncg.edu
* NOTE: If you have bookmarked https://spamcontrol.uncg.edu/ please update your bookmark to http://spamcontrol.uncg.edu/.
To prepare for this transition in service, you will need to migrate any mail rules you currently have setup in PureMessage, into Postini. This is done via "copy & paste," and instructions for doing so are located at http://spamcontrol.uncg.edu.
As of Wednesday, July 1st, you are able to login to your Postini Message Center at http://spamcontrol.uncg.edu to begin migrating your mail rules.
Once the service transition has been made on July 13th, spam will remain in your PureMessage quarantine for 14 days. However, you will be able to access your PureMessage account until Friday, September 4th, to migrate your mail rules.
If you have questions or need more information, please contact 6-TECH at (336) 256-TECH (8324) or 6-TECH@uncg.edu.
