Outsourcing Faculty/Staff Email

Information Technology Services has decided to proceed with outsourcing of faculty/staff email and calendar to Google. Additional Google services will be made available as well. After two years of study, ITS has decided this is the best route to meeting our service and sustainability goals, and that we can do this while protecting security and meeting UNCG's legal compliance obligations.
UNCG has outsourced student email to Google, and that has resulted in improved service and student satisfaction. While the Lotus email/calendar services ITS currently provides faculty/staff are reliable, we believe moving email to Google will help us to meet the intermediate- and long-term needs of faculty/staff for enrichment of email and related services.
Outsourcing email and calendar will not end ITS' responsibility for these services, and our continued involvement in managing them and training faculty/staff will be clear as we go through the migration process. The 2010 campus-wide migration schedule is still under development, with selected departments opting-in this fall as early adopters. The latest information will be posted at the iSpartan Information site.
