Disable File Sharing in Widows Vista

A vulnerability in Windows Vista was reported on September 7th that could allow a remote, unauthenticated attacker access to your machine resulting in a "Blue Screen of Death" (read more about the vulnerability here).

To protect against this vulnerability, Information Technology Services recommends that users disable file sharing (see directions below).

1. Right click on the taskbar Network system tray icon.

2. Click on Network and Sharing Center.

3. Click on the down arrow to the right of File sharing to expand it.

4. Select (dot) Turn off file sharing.

5. Click on the Apply button.
