Connect to the Refreshed Wireless Network with Leopard

The instructions below explain how to configure your Mac running Leopard in a building that has been refreshed. For a complete list of buildings that have been refreshed, read the Wireless Refresh Schedule.

NOTE: If your Mac is running Tiger, please refer to: Connect to the Refreshed Wireless Network with Tiger.


  1. Turn on the AirPort Wireless Card by clicking on the AirPort pull-down menu (at the top right of your screen) and selecting Turn AirPort On.

    The next time you access the AirPort menu, you should be able to see the University's wireless network listed under the airport menu.

  2. Click on the AirPort menu again and select Open Network Preferences.

  3. To begin configuring the wireless card and connect to UNCG-FacultyStaffStudent:

    1. Click once on the AirPort icon on the left hand side toolbar to select.

    2. Click the Advanced button.

  4. Click on the + button and enter the following information in the network configuration window:

    • Network Name:
      UNCG-FacultyStaffStudent
    • Security:
      WPA2Enterprise
    • User Name:
      Leave Blank
    • Password:
      Leave Blank
    • 802.1x:
      Automatic

  5. Click the Add button.

  6. Click OK on the next window and then Apply on the Network window.

  7. You should now be asked for your UNCG User Name and Password.

  8. The first time you connect, you may be presented with a dialog box like the one below. If so, click Always Allow.

  9. You also may be presented with the Verify Certificate dialog box. If so, click on Show Certificate, then check Always Trust these certificates, and click Continue.

    You should not need to perform this step again.

  10. The status section on the Network preferences dialog will indicate when you are connected.

    Note: The login may take a few seconds to authenticate and associate to the network.
