Connect to the Refreshed Wireless Network with Vista
The instructions below explain how to configure your Vista machine to access the wireless network in a building that has been refreshed. For a complete list of buildings that have been refreshed, read the Wireless Refresh Schedule.
Notes:
- If your machine is a Lenovo running Vista, please refer to: Connect to the refreshed wireless network with a Lenovo and Vista.
- These instructions assume that you already have a wireless network connection enabled and configured for DHCP.
- Under the Windows Vista Start menu, click Connect To. The Connect to a network window will open.

- Click on Set up a connection or network.
- Next, choose to Manually connect to a wireless network.
- Click on Next.
- On the Manually connect to a wireless network window, fill out the input areas as follows:
- Network Name:
UNCG-FacultyStaffStudent - Security Type:
WPA2-Enterprise - Encryption type:
AES - Check Start this connection automatically.
- Network Name:
- Click on Next.
- Click on Change Connection Settings in the next window.
- On the UNCG_FacultyStaffStudent Wireless Network Properties window, select the following options on the Connection tab:
- Connect automatically when this network is in range.
- Connect even if the network is not broadcasting.

- On the Security tab, configure the following settings:
- Security tape:
WPA2-Enterprise - Encryption Type:
AES - Network authentication method:
Protected EAP (PEAP)
- Security tape:
- Click on the Settings button.
- Configure the Protected EAP Properties as follows:
- Check Validate server certificate.
- Check Connect to these Servers and enter wireless.uncg.edu in the text box.
- In the Trusted Root Certification Authorities section, select Thawte Premium Server CA.
- Select Authentication Method:
EAP-MSCHAP v 2
- Click the Configure button.
- Automatically use my Windows logon name and password should be unchecked.

- Click OK.
- Your UNCG-FacultyStaffStudent wireless profile should be configured. A pop-up balloon will open, asking for additional information to connect to the network. Click inside this balloon.

- On the Enter Credentials window, enter your User name and Password.
