Connect to the Refreshed Wireless Network with Tiger

The instructions below explain how to configure your Mac running Tiger in a building that has been refreshed. For a complete list of buildings that have been refreshed, read the Wireless Refresh Schedule.

NOTE: If your Mac is running Leopard, please refer to: Connect to the Refreshed Wireless Network with Leopard.


  1. Turn on the AirPort wireless card by clicking on the AirPort pull-down menu (at the top right of your screen) and selecting Turn AirPort On.

  2. Click on the AirPort menu again and select Open Internet Connect.

  3. To begin configuring the wireless card and connect to UNCG-FacultyStaffStudent, click on the 802.1x icon at the top of the AirPort dialog box.

    Note: If you don't see the 802.1x icon, then select New 802.1x Connection from the File pull-down menu.

  4. Enter the following information in the 802.1x configuration window:
    • Configuration:
      Other
    • User Name:
      Leave Blank
    • Password:
      Leave Blank
    • Wireless Network:
      UNCG-FacultyStaffStudent

    Note: You may select the network from the drop down list as well.

  5. Click the Connect button.

  6. You will now be asked to enter your UNCG User Name and Password.

  7. The first time you connect, you may be presented with the Verify Certificate dialog box. If so, click Show Certificate.

  8. Check Always trust these certifications, and click Continue. You will not need to perform this step again.

  9. The Status section at the foot of the 802.1x dialog will indicate when you are connected. This may take a few seconds.

  10. Whe you quit the Internet Connect, you will be prompted to save the changes to the 802.1x configuration. Enter an appropriate name in the Save As dialog box (e.g. UNCG-FacultyStaffStudent) and click on the Save button.
