Service: Off Campus Network Access

Description

Information Technology Services (ITS) provides a variety of off-campus network access options for satellite offices as well as individuals.

Satellite Office off-campus network access options:

  • connection to the Greensboro Fiber Loop (requires geographic proximity to fiber)
  • obtaining Metro-Ethernet service (requires Metro-e service area eligibility)

ITS offers full campus wired and wireless network access to off campus satellite office locations located on or near the Greensboro Fiber Loop.  Satellite offices on the Greensboro Fiber Loop enjoy the same wired and wireless network access as offices located on the main campus.

We use Metro-e to offer business-class small office ISP-style network connectivity to off campus satellite offices that can't be connected to the Greensboro Fiber Loop. Metro-e access offers satellite offices services similar to other broadband internet providers such as Time Warner.

Individual off-campus network access options:

  • UNCG desktop services (virtual.uncg.edu)
  • teleworking service bundles
  • virtual private networking (VPN) 

Each of these services requires the individual to have a commodity internet connection.
