* Software @ UNCG

Information Technology Services (ITS) provides a variety of software services, including the deployment of applications for on-campus and off-campus use, licensing and acquisition information, and pre-purchase review of software considered for adoption.

By managing software licensing and acquisition, and negotiating license agreements, ITS is able to provide a robust set of applications for campus use, and enables campus departments and students to benefit from reduced costs and make their software dollars go farther.

Who is Eligible?

Students, faculty, and staff all have access to campus software.  However, some applications may be restricted to use by a particular location or group depending on how it was purchased, licensing, or their job description.

"Academic" software, which is purchased with "student fee" money, may only be accessed by faculty through the Application Catalog (AppCat), MyCloud, classrooms, ILE, and MacApps, and by students in ITS open access computer labs or department student computer labs.

Staff with a research appointment, such as research fellows, may request access to academic software by going to 6-TECH online, calling (336) 256-TECH (8324), or sending an email to 6-TECH@uncg.edu.

In addition, some software publishers restrict the use of their software in the license agreement regardless of the funding source. The most common is a restriction that an application may only be used for academic use; or teaching and learning.

Retirees do not have access to academic software.

Emeritus and Adobe Licensing Eligibility

Emeritus faculty can be granted access to the Adobe Suite only if they will be conducting official University business with the software. Use the Adobe Creative Cloud User License form to request access. Emeritus access is subject to verification and availability of licenses.

Available Software

Visit Available Software for information about each software application, including who can access it and where it is located.

Most software can be accessed through either the Application Catalog (Windows) or MacApps volume (Mac):

Otherwise, refer to the Available Software table for access details.

For software not already available, faculty and staff may request the installation or pre-purchase review of software through the Pre-Purchase Software and Hardware Review form. Information on how to request ITS Software Services may be found at ITS Software Service Requests
