IBM SPSS Statistics @ UNCG
IBM SPSS Statistics is a widely-used program for statistical analysis in social science, published by IBM. There are different modules available for lease through Information Technology Services (ITS). IBM SPSS Statistics can be installed on Windows, Mac and LINUX operating systems.
Who is eligible?
IBM SPSS Statistics may be installed on a University (desktop or laptop) computer, or used on a home computer by faculty, staff or students enrolled in degree-granting programs at UNCG. Currently, staff in non-academic departments are only eligible to use IBM SPSS Statistics version 20 or earlier. In 2012, UNCG changed its license agreement with IBM to take advantage of a new UNC system-wide license agreement for IBM SPSS Statistics. Unfortunately this agreement did not cover non-academic users. Our previous license allows continued use of all previous versions, and we are attempting to modify the agreement to include non-academic users before those versions become too dated.
What modules are available?
The new UNCG agreement with IBM means the suite of modules available to UNCG students, faculty, and staff in academic departments, significantly expanded starting with IBM SPSS Statistics 21. For a description of the modules visit IBM SPSS Statistics Modules.
For version 20 and earlier, the available modules are Regression, Advanced Statistics, Missing Values, and Forecasting.
Starting with version 21, the available modules are different on UNCG computers versus home use. Users on UNCG computers can freely use SPSS Campus Edition, which includes IBM SPSS Statistics Base, Advanced Statistics & Regression.
Home users can purchase an annual (August to August) lease of IBM SPSS Premium, which includes:
- IBM SPSS Statistics Base
- Advanced Statistics
- Custom Tables Data Preparation
- Missing Values
- Decision Trees
- Direct Marketing
- Complex Samples
- Neural Networks
- Exact Tests
- IBM SPSS Visualization Designer (requires separate installation)
- IBM SPSS SamplePower modules (requires separate installation)
The last two are separate applications and require separate licensing, but the fee is included with a single purchase of IBM SPSS Premium.
Please note the following version compatibilities:
