Software License Management

KeyServer is the software license management and auditing tool used to manage software distribution on the General Computing Network (GCN). KeyServer allows software to be made widely available by monitoring and controlling access to licenses that permit the software to be run. This permits licenses to be purchased based on the number of simultaneous users rather than the number of computers that exist on campus.

The KeyServer client is installed on all UNCG-owned computers with the standard software load. Through KeyServer, you will be granted access to an available license when you attempt to launch one of the applications managed by KeyServer. If there are sufficient licenses available, the program will launch and you can use it as you normally would. When you close the program, the license becomes available to another user.

For instructions on how to install managed software on the GCN, see: Installing Applications.
