Google Message Discovery (GMD)

For faculty and staff, email archiving, spam protection, and virus protection for iSpartan is handled through a product called Google Message Discovery (GMD).

Note: For students, email archiving, spam protection, and virus protection are handled by Google within Gmail. If you are a student, please refer to Archive mail, How is spam handled?, and About anti-virus scanning.

Email Archives

For faculty and staff, all incoming email is routed through GMD prior to delivery to the client's inbox, and outgoing email passes through GMD prior to being routed to the internet. You may login to the GMD Message Center to view your archived email. For help searching your Email Archives, see the Archive section of the GMD User Guide.

Spam Protection

GMD filters and quarantines spam before it reaches your inbox. Each day you will receive a Quarantine Summary, via email, of the messages that have been quarantined. The blocked messages are saved for 14 days. You may login to the GMD Message Center to view messages that have been quarantined and deliver any of them to your email inbox.

Virus Protection

Messages infected with known viruses are automatically "bounced back" to the sender. The Message Center checks for virus protection updates often, but any virus that has not been formally identified as a security threat may be delivered to your email inbox. Messages infected with known viruses will not show up in Message Center because they are automatically "bounced back" to the sender.
