Editorial Style Guide

The Information Technology Services (ITS) Editorial Style Guide contains guidelines and procedures for all ITS publications, whether for print or for the Web. These publications include, but are not limited to, memos of understanding, service level agreements, software documentation, policies, meeting notes, email messages, and news articles. The purpose of the Style Guide is as follows:

  1. To make documents clear and easy-to-read by establishing consistent formatting guidelines.
  2. To establish a clear and consistent look for the documents distributed via print and over the Web, creating a structural expectation for visitors.
  3. To familiarize content providers with submission requirements and offer a framework for creating documents.
  4. To set a formatting expectation for content providers, enabling a quicker publishing timeframe.

We also recommend the use of the Associated Press Stylebook and the American Heritage Dictionary to help with writing style and spelling.
