Purpose
This procedure addresses the following sections of the related policy:
Section III A.iv
"Computer workstation users are expected to adhere to the following:
- Ensure that operating system and application software is kept up to date with manufacturer patches.
- Take all necessary precautions to avoid workstation compromise. Employees and departments are responsible for making use of the recommended security software from the ITS division as set forth in the Standards for Computer and Related Technology (supported products list) and for configuring the software according to ITS standards."
This procedure covers the installation, use, and updating of antivirus software.
Scope
The procedure covers the University network, network infrastructure, and all machines that are University owned and privately owned that are directly connected to the University network.

Procedure
In order to maintain a safe computing environment, all network devices connected to the UNCG network are expected to have a current anti-virus or equivalent protection software installed.
Campus Connections
UNCG students, faculty, and staff are licensed and expected to do the following:
- Install Norton Antivirus software
- Update Norton Antivirus software
- Scan for viruses daily using Norton Antivirus

University non-affiliates are expected to provide their own updated antivirus protection software.
