Purpose
This procedure addresses the following sections of the related policy:
Section III.H
"Departments within UNCG that wish to establish connectivity to a third party are to file a new site request with ITS. The sponsoring organization must provide ITS with full and complete information as to the nature of the proposed access."
Scope
This procedure covers any networking connectivity either persistent or intermittent including dialup modem connections.

Procedure
Connectivity to campus will be designated as either intermittent (on-campus) or persistent, with the pertaining procedures described below.
Intermittent, On-Campus Connectivity
For modem connections that meet the following criteria, ITS Networks will keep minimal information on file and (contingent on the entity providing the specified information) the requesting entity can proceed without review:
- The telephone number used by the modem must not accept incoming calls
- The modem connection must be initiated by the university entity when data is to be transmitted, and terminated when transmition is complete
- The machine must not be configured to bridge, route or otherwise permit traffic on the modem connection to enter the UNCG network.
Information to be forwarded to the ITS-Director of Data and Voice Operations is as follows:
- The telephone number of the outbound line
- A list of the agencies being called and their telephone number(s).
- Machine registration details including:
- MACADDRESS
- Physical location (building/room #)
- MACADDRESS
- Contact person and telephone number
Any other intermittent connections will be subject to the Persistent Connectivity requirements in Section 4.2.
Persistent Connectivity
Modem connections meeting the following criteria will be considered to have persistent connectivity:
- Any external lines run into campus (from Telco, from other content providers, even dark fiber or wireless/microwave/unwired and any non-ITS Networking equipment or logical extensions)
