Purpose
This procedure addresses the following sections of the related policy:
Section III.E
"Visitors or non-University community members may require temporary access to computer or network resources. Non-affiliate network access is subject to the following restrictions:
- Non-affiliate network access is subject to all University policies including the Acceptable Use of Computing and Electronic Resources Policy.
- Only Deans and Department Heads can sponsor non-affiliate network access.
- Faculty, staff, and students must not use non-affiliate access procedures to gain any form of temporary computer or network access.
- Faculty and staff must not share their account information with non-affiliates."
Scope
This procedure covers all visitors/non-University community members that require temporary access to network resources.

Procedure
Criteria

Non-affiliate network access is subject to all University policies.

All requests for non-affiliate network access require a sponsor. The sponsor must be a full time University employee who will be accountable for all network activities of the non-affiliated party for the duration of non-affiliate network access.

Network access will be granted for a maximum of one week. A dean or department head may authorize extended network access. In this case, the dean or department head assumes the role of the sponsor.

Network access will be granted either through University owned equipment by using a fixed location workstation or laptop or directly through non-affiliate owned equipment.
- In the case of non-affiliate owned equipment, network access will be limited to Internet only access through specifically identified public access Ethernet ports or through wireless. It is the responsibility of the sponsor to provide university owned equipment should access beyond Internet only be required.
Requirements
- A logically isolated network will be created on a per application (peer group) basis within the UNCG network infrastructure.
- All attached devices will be uniquely identified by ITS in switching closets through labeling.
- Network attached human safety devices must not have any wireless network interfaces.
- Network attached human safety devices must not be dual plumbed into multiple networks.
- Controllers/workstations associated with the human safety peer group application must be certified on a periodic basis by the responsible party as free from any Trojan horse, virus or other Malware according to UNCG Antivirus Software Procedures.
- Application installation and maintenance patches must occur through hard media such as CD-ROM or flash device.
