Purpose
This procedure addresses the following sections of the related policy:
Section III.B
"Only authorized access points will be permitted. Unauthorized access points will be disabled."
"No wireless spectrum interference or disruption of other authorized communications is permitted."
Scope
This procedure covers any wireless connectivity that is installed outside the UNCG Information Technology Services wireless network infrastructure.
Responsible Parties
- Faculty, Staff, and Students
- Non-Affiliates
Procedure
At times, people may be setting up wireless servers and access points that conflict with those of UNCG. These need to be removed. When a rogue access point is set up, an automatically generated email is sent to the Service Desk, and the access point will immediately be disabled.
Methods to determine location and disabling the rogue access point are specified in the ITS internal document Unauthorized Access Point Detection and Removal.
