About the TeleLearning Center

Mission Statement

The University of North Carolina at Greensboro's (UNCG) TeleLearning Center is committed to supporting the University's mission of teaching, research, and service by providing students, faculty, and staff with facilities, equipment, and technical assistance to communicate via two-way interactive video to a learning community beyond campus borders. This communication includes, but is not limited to, delivery and receipt of credit and non-credit instruction, as well as UNC system-wide administrative conferences.

UNCG is a "leading student-centered University, linking the Piedmont Triad to the world through learning, discovery and service." The TeleLearning and TeleConferencing Center helps UNCG to realize this vision statement by literally linking the campus to sites throughout the state of North Carolina. Within the state, UNCG has extensive video teleconferencing capabilities, as an "extension site" on the NCREN (North Carolina Research and Education Network). This telecommunications network is operated by the Information Technologies Division of MCNC located in Research Triangle Park. The NCREN Video Network is a multi-site, multi-channel, interactive network connecting more than nineteen universities, medical schools, and research organizations. UNCG reaches the NCREN via H.323 "video over IP," using a Sony Ipela PCS G50 Video Communications System, and a Polycom VS-4000 Videoconference Unit for standard definition quality. A Polycom HDX 9002 unit is utilized for high definition video conferencing. Each of these units deliver low-latency, broadcast-quality video over IP/Ethernet networks.

Lane Ridenhour is the Program Coordinator and Video Manager of the UNCG TeleLearning and Teleconference Center. Hours of operation may vary daily with the class or conference schedules. UNCG's TeleLearning and Teleconference Center is located in the lower level of the Stone Building.

If you would like more information about the UNCG TeleLearning Facility, or would like to schedule a class, a conference, or a tour, contact Lane Ridenhour at 336-334-3969.
