Voice Services Features

Some features require an extra charge above the monthly base charge for the line. All features are not on every line. Departments can choose which features they need. Contact 6-TECH at (336) 256-TECH (8324) or send email to 6-TECH@uncg.edu for additional information. The instructions below are for single line telephones. Instructions may be different if your department utilizes a key system.

Distinctive Ringing

Sometimes it is useful to know if a call is coming from on campus or off campus. With the UNCG Telephone System, the type of ringing tells you whether the call is coming from on or off campus:

  • One ring repeated every few seconds is an on-campus call.
  • Two short rings repeated every few seconds is an off-campus call.

Call Hold

Allows you to place any established call on hold:

  1. Depress the switchhook.
  2. Listen for special dial tone.
  3. Dial *102.

To return to call on hold:

  1. Hang up.
  2. Listen for phone to ring.
  3. Answer phone.

Call Forward Universal

To forward your calls to an off-campus number:

  1. Pick up your phone and listen for dial tone.
  2. Dial *1, then press “8” and the 7 digit extension your telephone needs to be forwarded to

To forward your calls to an on-campus number:

  1. Pick up your phone and listen for dial tone.
  2. Dial *1 and then the 5 digit extension your telephone needs to be forwarded to.

To forward straight to voice mail:

  1. Pick up your phone and listen for dial tone.
  2. Dial *1 and then 71100 to forward directly to your voice mail.

To cancel call forwarding:

  1. Pick up your phone and listen for dial tone.
  2. Dial *2.
  3. Hang up phone.
