Telephone Features for Faculty and Staff
Some features require an extra charge above the monthly base charge for the line. All features are not on every line. Departments can choose which features they need. Contact Telephone Services for additional information. These instructions are for single line telephones. Instructions may be different if your department utilizes a key system.
Distinctive Ringing
Sometimes it is useful to know if a call is coming from on campus or off campus. With the UNCG Telephone System, the type of ringing tells you where the call is coming from:
- One ring repeated every few seconds is an on-campus call.
- Two short rings repeated every few seconds is an off-campus call.
Speed Calling
This feature allows you to call a list of up to ten frequently called numbers by dialing a one-digit code. To establish a Speed Call list:
- Lift handset and listen for dial tone.
- Dial Speed Call Code *174.
- Listen for special dial tone.
- Dial the one-digit code to be associated with the number (0-9).
- Dial the number (include access codes and area codes if needed).
- Press the # symbol.
- You will receive two short bursts of tone followed by dial tone. This confirms your number was stored.
To Access Numbers in Speed Call
- Dial * + the single digit code number it is stored on.
Call Hold
Allows you to place any established call on hold:
- Depress the switchhook.
- Listen for special dial tone.
- Dial *102.
To return to call on hold: - Hang up.
- Listen for phone to ring.
- Answer phone.
Call Pick-up
To pick up a call ringing at another phone:
- Pick up your phone and listen for dial tone.
- Dial *109.
- Begin talking.
- Handle as a normal call.
Call Forward Universal
To forward your calls to another number:
- Pick up your phone and listen for dial tone.
- Dial *100 and then the 5 digit number being forwarded to.
To cancel: - Pick up your phone and listen for dial tone.
- Dial *101.
