Telephone Services Administrative Guide
Telephone Services provides communication services by a digital switching system which is tailored to the needs of the campus including resident students, faculty, staff and departments. This guide provides you with information about our telephone services and how to use them. For further assistance, contact the Telephone Services, Monday through Friday, 8 am - 5 pm at 336-334-5937.
Repair Service
If you have trouble with your telephone, call Telephone Services at 334-5937 between 8 am -5 pm, Monday-Friday or fill out one of our Service Request Forms. When calling, please provide the following information:
- Your name
- The telephone number in trouble
- The nature of the problem (no dial tone, static, etc.)
- Department
- Building and room number
- A telephone number where you can be reached
UNCG Telephone Services does not repair or service privately owned telephone equipment. Telephone Services will repair University-owned lines and equipment due to malfunction at no charge.
Telephone Harassment
If you are receiving harassing phone calls, please contact Campus Police at 334-5963. They will authorize investigation of the calls. Telephone Services cannot assist you in this matter unless you have contacted Campus Police first.
Student Telephone Directory Listings
- On-campus student telephone numbers are listed in the campus directory computer service. This information is available by dialing 334-5000. All occupants of a room are listed in the UNCG Student Telephone Directory unless otherwise requested. The information shown in the directory is obtained from Banner.
- Telephone numbers of off-campus students may be obtained by calling the Student Locator at 334-5150.
UNCG Telephone Features
All features are not on every line and some features require an extra charge above the monthly base charge for the line. Departments can choose which features they need. Contact Telephone Services for additional information. These instructions are for single line telephones. If your department has a key system your procedures will be different.
Spartan Mail
Spartan Mail is more than an answering machine. Spartan Mail not only covers your calls while you are away from your desk, but also makes returning your calls easier.
- After you review a message, you can send a reply to the caller or send a copy of the message to someone else (Both have to go to a voice mail subscriber).
- You can send a message to a group of 25 or more people at a time.
- You can send a message from your mailbox to another mailbox and ask for confirmation when it is heard.
- You can have the system call you at another telephone to inform you of messages received.
- You can even set up an information line to let the system answer questions that are repeatedly asked of you everyday.
