UNCG Access to Virtual Private Networking
Virtual Private Networking (VPN) is used to create a secure path to UNCG's network in order for your machine to access campus resources. VPN creates an encrypted network connection between you and UNCG. Your computer will logically be part of the UNCG network when using a VPN connection.
This document is for faculty and staff members, system administrators, and vendors who wish to access restricted data/protected systems from off-campus locations or from the campus network. In order to use VPN, you must have an active Novell Netware account (or authentication object) and an Internet connection. You also need to get the appropriate VPN group name and group password by contacting 6-TECH at 336-256-TECH (8324) or 6-tech@uncg.edu.
Note: VPN access is not available to UNCG students. The U.S. Government considers certain cryptographic software, such as the Cisco VPN client, to be military munitions and has placed restrictions on use and distribution of the software.
For clients who have been migrated to the General Computing Network (GCN) and Active Directory (AD):
Please go to the AD Project web site for instructions on using VPN.
