Installing and using the VPN Client on a Mac
Virtual Private Networking (VPN) is used to create a secure path to UNCG's network in order for your machine to access restricted data or protected system. VPN creates an encrypted network connection between you and UNCG. Your computer will logically be part of the UNCG network when using a VPN connection. The instructions below apply to Macs running OS X (10.4.10).
Note: If you are running an older version of the VPN client, be sure to uninstall that version before upgrading to version 4.9.01.
- Download and install the software
- Connect to a server
- Disconnect the client
- Make a new VPN connection profile

- Double-click the Cisco VPN Client.mpkg file to install the VPN software.
- The Install Cisco VPN Client window will appear, along with a warning about the package. Click Continue.
- Click Continue on the Welcome window.
- Read the license agreement and click Continue to proceed.
- Click Agree to agree to the terms of the software license agreement.
- Select the destination volume (your Macintosh HD) to install the Cisco VPN client and click Continue.
- Click Install.
- Enter the administrative Name and Password and click OK to continue.

Connect to a server
- To start the connection, double-click the entry or select the entry and click the Connect button at the top left.

Make a new VPN connection profile
- Open the VPN client from where you installed it (i.e., open your local hard disk and search the Applications folder). Open the program and the VPN toolbar should be in view.

Note: If you are a system administrator, you must contact 6-TECH at 336-256-TECH (8324) to get the appropriate VPN host, group authentication name and password.
- When you have received the group authentication information, type it into the Name, Password, and Confirm Password text boxes.
- Click on Save.
