Using WebEx in Canvas

WebEx Sessions (using Training Center or Meeting Center) may be scheduled and accessed directly from a course in the Canvas LMS (Learning Management System).

**Note: Before using WebEx in Canvas for the first time, please ensure that you have activated your WebEx account.



Scheduling a Session (instructors)

Step 1 - Activate WebEx: Before using WebEx for the first time, you must activate your account. Details on this process are on the WebEx @ UNCG page. If you have already done this once, you may disregard this step and proceed.

Step 2 - Enable the WebEx navigation link in your Canvas course: In your Canvas Course, click Settings in the course menu (left), then click the Navigation tab (top). Enable the WebEx navigation link by either clicking-and-dragging it into the active section of the menu, or by using the gear box to toggle the Enable option. Then click Save.

Step 3 - Access WebEx in Canvas: In your Canvas course, click WebEx from your course menu (left side).

You will see your scheduled meetings (if any) listed here. On your first visit, set your time zone to whatever time zone is appropriate for your location. This will help when scheduling events with users from multiple time zones (especially important for distance education).

Step 4 - Schedule your sessions: To schedule sessions, click the Schedule more events button at the top right. From there, you can schedule a single session, or recurring sessions (either daily or weekly).

Some things to keep in mind: make sure your time zone is accurate, and be sure to select the appropriate meeting type under the Account menu - most of the time this will be Training Center, but you also have the option to use a different center if you choose.

When you are done, click Schedule and your session list will be updated.

Step 5 - Attend your session: When you view your session list, you may join any session by clicking the button that says either Host or Prepare. Current sessions will show the Host option, while future sessions will show the Prepare option. You may use the Prepare feature to get a session ready in advance, without making it available to your students. More information on this feature can be found in the documentation, available on the Training Center page.



Attending a Session (students)

Step 1 - Access WebEx in Canvas: In your Canvas course, click WebEx from your course menu (left side).

You will see your scheduled meetings (if any) listed here. On your first visit, set your time zone to whatever time zone is appropriate for your location.

Step 2 - Join your session: Available sessions will be shown with a Join button that is orange in color. If you are not able to join the session, it is possible that the instructor has not yet joined, and has restricted early access to the meeting.
