LAMP Support @ UNCG
The Linux Apache MySQL and PHP (LAMP) web hosting environment at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) provides services similar to shared web hosting services available from commercial web hosting providers. This environment is implemented using cPanel, a site management dashboard used by some Internet Service Providers.
This service is intended for Official University Units. These units will be entitled to one website in the environment at no charge. Additional websites for the same University unit may be requested for cost. This service is NOT available for personal web pages/applications, student groups or student coursework. Canvas is the recommended environment for academic and instructional use.
LAMP Environment Overview
Every website hosted in this environment will receive a three label domain name in the format sitename.uncg.edu where “sitename” will be selected by the client unit, subject to availability and approval by the University Webmaster on behalf of the Internet Oversight Committee. Each LAMP account comes with:
- Linux / Apache / MySQL / PHP
- 10 GB of disk space (Additional storage allocation can be purchased at ITS standard rates.)
- 10 MySQL databases
- Unlimited bandwidth
- cPanel administration
- optional 2GB development site
WordPress is available to be installed in the LAMP environment. The official UNCG WordPress theme is available via the IOC WordPress Theme page.
To request a departmental LAMP website, complete the Web Hosting Request Form. Once your request for LAMP web hosting has been approved, you will be contacted with your user name and initial password. Your user name and password are not the same as your UNCG credentials.
cPanel software is used to administer and manage your LAMP web hosting environment. See Using cPanel for instructions on accessing and using cPanel.
