Easy-To-Use, Enterprise Storage

UNCG ITS publishes recommendations on the use of supported file storage systems. Box supports the storage of "Moderate Risk" data according to the new Data Classification policy for UNCG.

For files not synced to a local computer, Box meets the "3-Lock" rating requirements for storage of all levels of data (Minimal, Low, Moderate and High Risk). This means certain types of data will be best suited for storage in Box. One particular requirement of a 2-Lock and 3-Lock system is that data cannot be shared publicly. You can share data in Box with people outside UNCG, but you will need to specify who those people are, rather than just allowing anyone to anonymously view a file

For files that ARE synced to a local computer, Box meets the “1-Lock” rating requirements.

Storage systems other than Box will also be rated using the Lock-System (i.e., Google Drive will be rated as a 1-Lock storage service). For information regarding Data Classifications and their associated storage requirements, see Data Storage Guidance.

All University records, whether stored on Box, on your hard drive, or on your network files space, are subject to the Electronic Records Retention Policy. For more information, see: Records Management.
