Campus Core Network Upgrade

This upgrade to our campus core networking equipment significantly enhances our network’s reliability, efficiency, and capacity, ensuring our university remains a leader in innovation and collaboration.

What is it?

This is a major upgrade to the campus core networking equipment, the backbone of our connectivity infrastructure. This transformation is among the most significant in the history of our university’s network.

Why are we doing it?

  • Futureproofing: The existing core network infrastructure is nearing the end of its operational lifespan. This upgrade is essential to ensure ongoing reliability and to prepare for upcoming technological advancements.
  • Consolidation: This project will unify our network platforms, creating a more sustainable and efficient ecosystem. Enhanced network performance will better support emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), and High-Performance Research Computing.
  • Efficiency and Cost Saving: As we shift towards more cloud-based services, modernizing our network infrastructure allows us to maintain critical on-campus services while reducing operational costs.

How will I be impacted?

During the upgrade period, if you are on campus, you may experience sporadic or complete outages of several services, including:

  • Internet access
  • Phone services
  • Remote access
  • Web services
  • Hosting services

When will this be implemented?

The upgrade is scheduled for Friday, October 11, 2024, through Saturday, October 12, 2024.

What do I need to do?

Stay Informed: Keep up to date with the latest announcements related to the upgrade. If you are on campus during the upgrade period, ensure you have alternative means of communication ready as a backup to the campus network.
