What is it?
Banner Web Time Entry allows campus employees to enter time and leave electronically through the UNCGenie Employee Self-Service Portal. This system replaces the current spreadsheet-based timesheets, monthly leave report, and other electronic timekeeping systems currently in use at UNCG with the exception of Kronos, NCRLAP.org, and ServiceNow. This new system provides a streamlined, web-based approach for efficient time and leave entry.
Why are we doing it?
This initiative supports our campus-wide goal of improving administrative efficiency by:
- Ensuring compliance with Department of Labor wage and hour regulations.
- Providing an accurate and efficient way for employees to record their time and leave, helping to ensure correct pay.
- Reducing the need for manual timekeeping and leave reporting (no more downloading or filling out forms).
- Minimizing manual data entry of time and leave records.
Who will this impact?
If you currently use Kronos, NCRLAP.org, or ServiceNow, nothing changes for you.
Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) non-exempt employees, student employees, and temporary employees who currently use paper timesheets or any other timekeeping system (such as TimeClock Plus) will switch to entering their time directly in the Banner system.
FLSA-exempt leave-earning employees will report leave through the UNCGenie Self-Service Portal.
How will I be impacted?
- As of April 1, 2025, all FLSA-exempt leave-earning employees, both SHRA and EHRA, will enter their leave usage through the UNCGenie Employee Self-Service Portal.
- On July 16, 2025, all FSLA-exempt leave-earning employees will transition from Timesheets to Leave Reports in Banner Web Time Entry
- At a later date, all hourly student and temporary employees will begin entering time through the UNCGenie Employee Self-Service Portal.
- At a later date, all FLSA non-exempt employees, SHRA and EHRA, will submit web-based timesheets via the UNCGenie Employee Self-Service Portal.
Training and documentation will be provided for these groups in advance. Employees currently using Kronos, NCRLAP.org, or ServiceNow will continue to use those systems for time and leave submissions and will not be affected by this change.
When will this be implemented?
A small group of employees started testing the system on December 1, 2024, as part of the rollout process. Training for all users began in March 2025. The Banner Web Time Entry system will be introduced in phases:
- April 1, 2025: Banner Web Time Entry timesheets are live for exempt leave-earning employees.
- July 16, 2025: Banner Web Time Entry Leave Reports are live for exempt leave-earning employees.
- Date TBD: Hourly student and temp employees will start to use the system.
- Date TBD: Non-exempt and non-exempt Law Enforcement (LEO) employees will start to use the system.
Timesheets Transition to Leave Reports for Exempt Leave-Earning Employees
Beginning July 16, 2025, exempt leave-earning employees will use Leave Reports instead of Timesheets in Banner Web Time Entry (WTE). The process will feel familiar—just with updated terminology:
- Users will access Leave Reports using the Enter Leave Report button instead of Enter Time.
- The interface and workflow will remain nearly the same.
- This change supports accurate payroll processing moving forward.
What’s Next for Non-Exempt and Non-Exempt Law Enforcement Employees?
UNCG is currently reviewing payroll processes to determine the best payroll frequency for non-exempt and non-exempt law enforcement (LEO) employees.
- No changes have been made yet—no milestones are set.
- Updates will be posted here as decisions are finalized.
- If you are a non-exempt or non-exempt LEO employee, continue using the spreadsheet-based timesheets available on the Timesheets and Leave page.
- Timekeepers will manually enter hours in Banner until a new system is implemented.
