Who: All members of the UNCG community—students, faculty, staff, and visitors—who use campus network services.

What: UNCG will upgrade its core campus security infrastructure to strengthen protection for the campus backbone, end users, and the University’s digital assets. Affected services include:

  • Internet access
  • Phone services
  • Remote access
  • Web services
  • Hosting services

When: Saturday, July 26, 2025, starting at 8:00 a.m.
The migration process is expected to take approximately two hours, with additional time reserved to address unforeseen issues or to revert changes if necessary.

Why:

This upgrade is necessary to:

  • Future-proof the network as current equipment nears the end of its useful life.
  • Consolidate platforms for a more efficient, sustainable, and high-performance network that supports emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), and High-Performance Research Computing.
  • Improve efficiency and reduce costs by aligning on-campus infrastructure with cloud-based service trends.

Do I Need to Do Anything?

No action is required. Emergency services lines are expected to remain available during the maintenance window. Once the upgrade is complete, there will be no noticeable changes to your day-to-day experience.

The university appreciates your understanding and cooperation as we work to improve campus connectivity and digital capabilities.
