What is it?
The Academic-Link Project is a campus-wide initiative to strengthen indoor wireless connectivity in all UNCG buildings that support learning, instruction, and academic collaboration.
With wireless access now essential to teaching, research, and day-to-day productivity, Academic Link ensures that our infrastructure keeps pace with user needs—today and into the future.
Why are we doing it?
Students, faculty, and staff rely on fast, stable wireless access for everything from course delivery to hybrid meetings, cloud collaboration, and research. This initiative will:
- Improve wireless performance inside classrooms, labs, and academic buildings.
- Support increased demand for wireless access points (APs) and bandwidth.
- Help eliminate weak spots and dead zones by optimizing AP placement.
- Ensure our wireless environment is ready for future technologies.
By enhancing indoor coverage where it matters most, we’re creating a more reliable and connected campus experience.
How will I be impacted?
The next phase of the project focuses on assessing and improving the IT network closets in every campus building. These closets house each building’s network equipment and serve as the central point where all network cables connect.
With many new wireless access points being added, it’s important to ensure these closets can support the additional cabling and power needs.
All assessment and remediation work will take place inside the network closets. Because no network circuits will be disconnected, there will be no impact to students, faculty, or staff during this phase.
When will this be implemented?
The assessment and remediation of the network closets will take place during normal business hours in October and November 2025.
What do I need to do?
There is nothing you need to do during the network closet assessment and remediation phase.
Your cooperation and patience are appreciated as UNCG continues building a stronger, more reliable wireless experience for everyone on campus.
