Panopto Retirement

UNCG’s transition to integrated Microsoft tools for class recording creation, storage, and playback

What is it?

UNCG has ended its use of Panopto as a campus service as of December 31, 2025.

Canvas Studio, OneDrive, and Clipchamp has replaced Panopto as UNCG’s recommended tools for creating, storing, editing, and sharing video content for courses.

Why did we do it?

Retiring Panopto and moving to Microsoft 365 tools provides:

  • Better integration with the systems you already use, including Canvas, Teams, and OneDrive
  • Easier sharing and permissions management using your UNCG credentials
  • A modern, user-friendly video creation and editing experience with Clipchamp
  • Significant cost savings and reduced complexity in managing video services campus-wide

This change ensures the university is making the best use of resources while continuing to provide high-quality, accessible tools to support teaching, learning, and collaboration.

What do I need to do?

We encourage faculty and staff to:

  • Use Canvas Studio, OneDrive, and Clipchamp for all new content.
