Who Is Affected?
Students, faculty, and staff who access UNCGenie or other Banner processes using ID & PIN option.
What Is Changing?
UNCG ITS is decommissioning the ID & PIN option, which currently can be used to log in to UNCGenie as an alternative to active UNCG credentials.
When?
The ID & PIN option will be permanently disabled at 7:00 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 28th, 2026. UNCG credentials will be required to access UNCGenie after this time.
Why?
ID & PIN does not provide a sufficiently secure method of authentication; it does not comply with multi-factor authentication requirements and is therefore at greater risk of attack. As of December 31st, 2025, Ellucian does not support any versions of Banner (the platform that UNCGenie is built on) that allow ID & PIN.
Do I Need to Do Anything?
