Apple has announced that macOS Sequoia 15.0 will be released on Monday, September 16, 2024. Information Technology Services (ITS) and the Mac Advisory Committee will begin evaluating the new operating system’s (OS) compatibility with UNCG enterprise applications and network configurations.

Important Update Recommendations

ITS strongly recommends that you do not update your Mac to macOS Sequoia on the release day. Instead, it’s best to wait until Apple releases the first significant update, version 15.1, which is usually available in mid to late October.

If Apple releases a small “dot” update like 15.0.1, please continue to postpone upgrading. These minor updates typically fix smaller issues, but they are not enough to ensure full compatibility with key software.

Why We’re Not Blocking the Update

Unlike previous years, ITS will not block macOS Sequoia on day one. This decision is based on feedback from clients and the successful early testing of the last five major macOS releases. No significant issues have been detected in these updates, allowing ITS to change its approach and enable major updates to be installed sooner than before.

Special Considerations for Adobe Users

If you use Adobe products like Photoshop, InDesign, or Premier Pro, it is especially important to wait for version 15.1 before upgrading your Mac. In past years, Adobe software has experienced issues before the .1 release of macOS.

For those using other specialized software, please check the software vendor’s documentation for macOS Sequoia support information or with your DTS (Departmental Technology Support) before updating. If your department does not have a DTS, contact 6-TECH for assistance.

Microsoft Office Compatibility

Microsoft has confirmed that its Office suite will have full support on day one for macOS Sequoia.
