Information Technology Services (ITS) will disable Read.AI across the UNCG Microsoft 365 environment. This change will be completed on Monday, August 18, 2025.
Read.AI is a meeting transcription and analytics tool that some Microsoft Teams users may have seen in their meetings. Disabling it helps us maintain compliance with university privacy standards and ensure that only approved applications have access to meeting content and data.
Who Is Affected
Faculty, staff, and students using Microsoft Teams or other Microsoft 365 applications where Read.AI may appear as a meeting participant or integration.
What’s Changing
- Read.AI will no longer be available in UNCG’s Microsoft 365 environment.
- The application will be removed from all Teams meetings and Microsoft 365 apps.
- Any features or analytics provided by Read.AI will no longer function.
Alternatives Available or Coming Soon
- Teams Premium is already available and provides AI-powered call and meeting recaps for Teams meetings and regular phone calls.
- To request a license, submit the Microsoft Teams Premium request form in the 6-TECH Self Service Portal.
- The cost for a Teams Premium license will be billed annually to the requesting department.
- For details about available features, visit Microsoft Teams Premium | Microsoft Teams.
- Microsoft 365 Copilot (paid version, coming soon) offers transcription, meeting summaries, and actionable insights across Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
What Do I Need to Do?
You do not need to take any action. If you see Read.AI in a meeting before August 18, you can safely remove it from the participant list. After the change is applied, it will no longer appear.
Why This Is Important
This change protects sensitive meeting content and supports UNCG’s commitment to safeguarding university data.
