Who Is Affected?
Students, faculty, staff, and former students who currently use ID & PIN to access UNCGenie or Banner-related services.
What Is Changing?
The ID & PIN login option for UNCGenie/Banner will be permanently disabled.
After this change, Banner will only be accessible using UNCG Single Sign-On. This means you will log in with your UNCG username and password, along with multi-factor authentication, the same way you access Canvas and Microsoft 365.
When?
The ID & PIN option will be permanently disabled at 7:00 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 28th, 2026.
Why?
ID & PIN does not provide a sufficiently secure method of authentication; it does not comply with multi-factor authentication requirements and is therefore at greater risk of attack. As of December 31st, 2025, Ellucian does not support any versions of Banner (the platform that UNCGenie is built on) that allow ID & PIN.
Do I Need to Do Anything?
- If you have an active UNCG computing account:
No action is needed if you already log in using UNCG Single Sign-On. - If you rely on ID & PIN:
Please make sure you can access UNCGenie using UNCG Single Sign-On before Jan. 28. - Former students:
- Download unofficial transcripts before losing access.
- Consider setting up an Authorized User account for ongoing access to the Student Account Center.
- Ongoing access options for former students will be determined as part of the Identity Management Modernization efforts beginning in Spring 2026.
More details about this change are available in the Banner – Discontinuation of ID & PIN knowledge article.
