Who Is Affected?
Some UNCG students, faculty, and staff who use Exchange Online email through:
- Outlook mobile apps
- New Outlook for Mac desktop client
What Is Happening?
ITS is aware of an issue affecting access to Exchange Online mailboxes.
Users may experience intermittent access issues, and in some cases, may be unable to access their email when using the Outlook mobile apps or the new Outlook for Mac.

- Current status update from Microsoft: Thursday, Apr. 9, 2026, 11:42 a.m.
- Estimated resolution: Friday, Apr. 17, 2026
Why Is This Happening?
A service responsible for generating and delivering notifications is not processing requests as expected, which is causing the disruption.
Scope of Impact
- Approximately 3,000 users may experience intermittent issues
- A smaller group of users may experience ongoing access problems
Microsoft is continuing to monitor and address the issue.
What Is Being Done?
Microsoft is:
- Deploying a long-term fix
- Running a program to identify and restart the affected notification service when errors occur
These steps are helping reduce impact while the fix is being deployed.
